Guest Catherine Elliott on Resurfacing From Circumstances Beyond Our Control | HR19

Sometimes things happen to us that we have no control over – like life-altering illnesses, employment termination and then being cut-off LTD benefits.  Dealing with one of these is difficult enough.  When all occur at the same time, it can feel like a virtual tsunami.  We can let such circumstances take us out, or we can decide to fight.  Those choices determine where we go next in this life of ours.  In today’s podcast you will meet Catherine Elliott – one of my heroes – someone who models courage, resilience and tenacity – and what deciding to react differently can look like, even in truly adverse circumstances.

About the Guest – Catherine Elliott

Catherine Elliott was a senior manager within the health sector until 2013 when a life-altering illness took away her health and then her job.  She fought back and won.  The organizational decisions were reversed but not the consequences of those.  A life-long learner, Catherine made the choice to keep moving forward, to reflect on what was truly important, who she was at the core and how she could continue to make a positive difference in the lives of others, albeit, now differently.

Catherine pursued and just completed her bachelors’ degree.  She has become an ordained minister and assists with “end of life” transitioning and celebrations of life.  She offers services as an editor, is working towards the publication of her book of poetry and is a perpetual seeker of new knowledge and how to apply that to life.

Catherine has integrated the lessons learned from her personal journey into helping others.  She still struggles with health challenges.  She has learned to set boundaries and to listen to her body’s needs.  She offers wisdom and insights to those fortunate enough to work with her.
